Zehrs Markets

I am a professional and published cookbook author who moved to Brantford in 2007. At first the Fairview Zehrs store was great but over the past two years it has gone significantly downhill - to the point that I have taken a great deal of my business elsewhere (Sobey's, Metro, Forte's Market). Too bad for Zehrs because the average cookbook costs between $5000 and $8000 to write and also there is our personal grocery bill. Several of our friends have switched to chains other than Zehrs/Loblaws because of this store.

Why?

Let's talk about produce. Rotten. This is not an exaggeration. Liquid green peppers. Packages of herbs still on the shelf with expiry days long past. Moldy tomatoes. Eggplants with more wrinkles than an elephants ankles. Bags of salad that are liquefied. Asparagus that hasn't been stored in water and is so dry that the tops crumble off when you touch them. I wouldn't be ranting if this was an one-time occurrence, however, my husband and I have spoken repeatedly to the produce manager. He's an older fellow who obviously could care less about his job as he shows no pride in taking care of the department or he would have fixed the problem the first half dozen times we complained. Today we spoke to the store manager. We'll see if his reaction was merely a pat on the back to get customers out of the store or if he actually does something about it. We also took photos with the BlackBerry and will be forwarding them to Loblaws head office.

The staff and owners of this store should be ashamed of themselves and should learn to cull rotting produce as it leaves a bad impression on the entire store. This is the worst place I have ever shopped.

Wonderful store with many good employees. There is a mean lady in produce however all of the younger men in produce were extremely helpful and polite. I would go back there in an instant.

I have been a customer with Zehrs for many years and over the past several months I have noticed sadly that the customer service at both Brantford stores has taken a downwad spiral. The checkout line ups are way too long. I provide my green tubs but no one other than the check out person has to fill the tub. The shelves are empty of the product I am looking for and there is nobody around to ask if the product is in the back storage. I also find that the staff is not as friendly as they used to be. Sorry but just an observation.

the store is clean but the some of the younger cashiers can rude... they don't even say hello, never mind make eye contact... Manners are a thing of the past I guess... it should be required if you are working with the public...

I like this story very much for it's cleanliness and products but I do find you have to watch their due dates.A lot of times they are still on the shelf past the due date otherwise I find this a good store.

I would rate Zehrs Markets on King George Rd., Brantford as EXCELLENT. The service is great. I love the variety and can always find what I am looking for.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE LADY AT THE RETURNS IS ARGUING WITH ME OVER STALE BREAD, PARKING LOTS IS FULL OF POT HOLES, STORE IS DIRTY AND UNORGANIZED, the bakery is selling items that are due that day?

WOULD IT KILL ONE OF THOSE STAFF MEMBERS TO SMILE AT YOU.
